A new 3D printer? The Creality CR-6 SE.

This was a Kickstarter that I backed not too long ago. This is actually my third 3D printer so far. My first printer being the Sunhokey Prusa i3 – which I used to print the Elias cosplay back in 2018. I ended up swapping it because of the fragile acrylic frame that was starting to give away. Not too long after, I settled on an open box Monoprice Maker Ultimate (MMU) that served me pretty well for a while until the heater started to act up.

At that point, I could have probably looked into repairing that instead of getting a completely new machine but there were some features that the CR-6 SE came with that I was drawn to immediately:

  • bed auto-level
  • relatively more quiet than my old MMU
  • filament run-out sensor
  • faster hot bed pre-heat
  • integrated toolbox
  • power failure print resume
  • touch screen UI

Okay, to be honest a lot of those can probably be modded for my MMU but I figured why not. I was able to jump in on an early bird price, and figured I could start fresh.

Albeit it's not a perfect machine, I'm generally happy with the machine that I got.

Setup was relatively straightforward. Not too long after opening the box and a few screws, I was able to get a test print started.

It turns out that out of the box it prints relatively well too with this preloaded model of a fighter jet that you can snap off and build.

We'll see how good it keeps up the more I print.
