Figure Dump: Prizes & Scales

figures May 24, 2021

Just another figure dump as I do some organization.

I've thrown the term prize figure around quite a bit, but what is it exactly? It's a type of figure, usually given out as prizes for crane games so they're usually lower quality than those of scaled figures (like those 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, etc. figures, which can easily often cost upwards of a $100+ a piece).

Scaled figures usually have the scale in the official figure title (like Saekano Eriri Spencer Sawamura (Casual Ver.) 1/7 Scale Figure) and these are usually the more premium line of figures. The scale here refers to the scaling between the figure and the actual character size, so if a character was 140 cm tall, then a 1/7 figure would be 20 cm tall.

Just because they're lower quality though, doesn't mean that prize figures are all that bad. Here are some figures from both groups in my collection.

Kasugano Sora (Yosuga no Sora) - 1/7 Scale (Clone) (MFC)

I had to double check this figure. I didn't immediately recognize that this was Sora from Yosuga no Sora, but yeah, it's her. This is one of those local Chinatown finds for me, so definitely a clone.

This scale figure itself isn't that bad I suppose. There's some details that seem a bit off. For ~$30 it's a fraction of those cost of a legitimate copy of about ~$120, but you get what you pay for.

Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer) - Prize

This one's a prize figure. There's actually some scaled figures I've been eyeing but they're like several hundred dollars... this Tanjiro figure is a pretty cheap prize figure though, roughly costing like $25 from GameStop though.

Chino Kafuu (Is the Order a Rabbit?) - Prize (MFC)

This is one of my figures that I've gotten from an anime convention. I'm pretty sure I haven't completed the anime yet, but it's totally one of those comfy series that you'd watch and just smile at. When I was browsing through the stalls selling figures, this one caught my eye and I ended up grabbing her and Kokoa below.

Hato Kokoa (Is the Order a Rabbit?) - Prize (MFC)

Tea or coffee? I enjoy both. This figure is pretty comfy, with just the right amount of detail, though I did notice there's a small paint scuff on her skirt while taking pictures.

Sagiri Izumi (Eromanga Sensei) - 1/7 Scale (Clone) (MFC)

Alright, I'll admit it – I really enjoyed this anime. If you haven't watched it yet it's a sorta lewd anime about a shut-in girl who doesn't want to go out (to school) and stays at home and draws ero manga. Yeah. The figure was bought off eBay, and it's definitely a copy. Some smudges around, and unfortunately her feet connector snapped off. I may have tried to super glue it once before but it looks like it failed. I'll try to repair it again one of these days.

Iori Minase (Idolm@ster) - Prize

This was also bought off eBay if I'm not mistaken. I prefer im@s to Love Live most of the time, but if I had to be super honest, I would probably prefer a figure of Miki instead. Not a bad prize figure, but would probably look better with the whole set.

Sinon (Sword Art Online / ALO) - Prize

Sinon is cute. Sinon with cat ears and tail is cute. Archers are also cute. I think this figure ticks all of my likes.

Rin Tohsaka (Fate/stay night) - Prize (MFC)

I went to a con looking for a Rin figure, so I ended up walking away with a Rin figure. There's a scale figure of hers that I've been wanting, but I've still yet to get it. At least we get another toweled girl in our collection.

Kyouko Sakura (MFC) and Miki Sayaka (MFC) (Madoka Magica) - Prize

Really like these prize figures, as they're quite large. I don't have the other three girls though, so maybe I'll hunt them down in the future.

Kinomoto Sakura (Cardcaptor Sakura) - Prize (MFC)

Sakura is a nice girl. I've been wanting the Stars Bless You figure, but it's still a hard sell for the price. I did find one in Chinatown for about $100 before if I recall, but it was in the box and I couldn't tell the quality – judging from my experience with clones though, it might have been for the best.

Konno Yuuki (Sword Art Online) - Prize (MFC)

Another impulsive GameStop buy. Pretty good figure, though it's not exactly canon for her to show up in a GGO outfit...

Yuuki Asuna (Sword Art Online) - Prize

I think I got this figure from before my cosplaying days at a convention. I think I'd have to say I like her casual outfit before she joined a guild. It looks so Asuna-esque, without the usual Asuna look, perhaps?

Yuna (Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale) - Prize

More SAO figures! Ordinal Scale is a good movie too.

Emilia (Re:Zero) - Prize

E.M.T.! Such angel material.

Emilia (Re:Zero) - Scale (Clone)

This was another Chinatown clone, and I want to argue – it's not that bad, aside from some paint scuffs mostly on the legs. To be fair, it's a bit of a simpler figure, and the Puck baton does look fine.

Shana (Shakugan no Shana) - Prize

With Rin, I wanted to get a Shana figure, although Shana is a relatively older anime nowadays, I suppose. I think I'd still rate her as one of my favorite girls / anime, even though it probably wouldn't be my top rated. This figure is basically her and an alternate version of her with pink hair. Not bad, though her sword doesn't hold well in one, and one of the boxes are pretty beat up.

Ayase Eri (Love Live) - Prize Clone? (MFC)

I'm not actually sure if the copy I have is a clone or not – if I recall correctly, I picked her up from eBay. The quality doesn't look too bad aside from some scuffs on her left leg in the pictures. Another one of those that would probably look best with the rest of the set.

Asahina Mikuru (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) - Prize (MFC)

This one's another eBay find. It came without the box so I'm not super sure if it's a clone or not, but it looks fine to me. No huge noticable paint scuffs, and it seems pretty accurate to the model. I wonder if there's a Nagato Yuki in a swimsuit too...

Kousaka Kirino (Oreimo) - Prize (MFC)

Another boxless eBay figure in my collection. It seems legit enough, so I'll assume these are real. I feel like sometimes it's easier to get a lewd-er figure than a normal figure, but I'm not exactly complaining either.

Souryuu Asuka Langley (Evangelion) - Prize (MFC)

Another series I'd love to get more figures from. Maybe each of the EVA units? That would be pretty cool.

Another Asuka prize figure (MFC), but this time in her signature school girl outfit. I like how this figure has a non-typical plain base, and it adds to the figure.

Akiyama Mio (K-ON!) - Prize (MFC)

Mio is cute! Though it's far off from her normal school girl outfit. I wonder if the other girls also have outfits like this.

Nakano Azusa (K-ON!) - Prize (MFC)

This one's a rather larger figure. Unfortunately, this figure was damaged during shipping and her foot snapped off while it was on the base (you can easily see where it snapped in one of the close up pictures). Still a nice figure though, and extra points for the guitar prop!

Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) - Prize (MFC)

Ponytails though — hnng! A pretty simple figure, but the ponytail made me want Haruhi a tad bit more here. Not sure I can say the same about the whole Endless Eight arc though.

Kanbe Kotori (Rewrite) - Prize (MFC)

Hm, not much to say here. I vaguely recall watching Rewrite, but I don't remember it too much anymore.

Kochou Shinobu (Demon Slayer) - Prize (MFC)

Last but not least we have Shinobu. Something about the butterfly motif is just so alluring to look at... the only thing that would make it better would be a larger scaled figure I think :)

Interested in getting figures after seeing all of the figures above?

I still think it's a good idea to shop around for a figure you really want before jumping on the figure train. I think a single, high quality scale figure is better than a bunch of small ones, especially if you have limited space to display them.

Another thing to keep in mind is sets of figures, as you can see above (and it seems to be more common with the music-themed anime) that it probably will look best if you get all the figures in a set, so keep an eye out for that!
