Finally, a normal Rin Tohsaka figure!

figures May 18, 2021

Oh hey, an Amazon package arrived! I wonder what it could be...

Tada!

A Rin figure from Fate/stay night! I actually "pre-ordered" this earlier, but it was cancelled somehow. Anyways, I was randomly browsing around and saw this figure was available for sale again, so I figured, I'd buy her again this time (and it's in stock!)

Time to do a little unboxing!

I haven't really done a full 'unboxing' post before, so in case you were wondering, this is how I usually go about this.

1. Open from the bottom, when possible

In most cases where you have the option to open from the top of the box or the bottom, I tend to open from the bottom. I don't think it matters much, since either way the factory seal is opened but I feel like keeping the top seal intact looks nicer.

As you can see, the figures are usually shipped pretty securely. If the box gets dented a bit, the figure should be fine, but to be honest, I like keeping the box in relatively good condition too.

These types of figures are usually shipped in some sort of cardboard packaging, and wrapped in plastic on the inside.

2. Check for issues

I don't often do this, but sometimes you notice things before you continue unboxing. In this case, I noticed that there were scuffs on the cardboard packaging.

It looks like parts of Rin's hair, specifically the ribbons may have rubbed up against the cardboard during shipping, but with a quick inspection, there doesn't seem to be any chips or noticeable defects so far, so let's continue.

Looking at the base and the rest of the figure, nothing stands out to me, so I'd say we're good to go. I don't care too much keeping the plastic in shape, so I just usually slice it open big enough to extract the figure and parts out.

3. Figure assembly

Some figure require assembly like this one, and others come fully assembled. Luckily for this one, it's just two separate pieces and it's very straight forward.

Two pegs on the base, with different sizes.

This figure has two pegs that are of different sizes, so there's only one way it can fit.

Within seconds, you're done! So what does the figure look like now?

4. Figure appreciation

So first and foremost, I'm assuming you've gotten a figure because you either really like how it looks and have no idea who they are, or really like the character and motivated you to get a figure of them. If you aren't really interested in either the character or the figure, and it wasn't on some ridiculous sale or anything, then I'm sort of curious on what motivated you to purchase it – but regardless, after you assemble the figure, I think it's important to take some time and just admire the figure.

I mean, you've just spent your hard earned money on it and all.

Since we're already focused on the base, let's start there and go up.

Right from the start you can check out the shoes. It's pretty simple, but you can tell there's some detail with the 'stitching' around. It's not super highly detailed, like I feel like the buckle could've been colored slightly different so it stands out instead of blending in, but not much comment here.

Going up a bit, you'll see the thing that makes Rin very famous – the zettai ryouiki.

For those who don't know what that is, it's basically the thigh gap between long knee highs and skirt/shorts, and this figure doesn't disappoint.

The knee highs look fine. There's a small seam on it, but nothing too bad. Plus side is that there's actually a gap between the "skin" and the "socks" giving it a nice visual texture rather than just being painted on.

Looking at her hands, it's in pretty good shape as well. There's even fingernails on this model which looks nice compared to completely flat hands. The command seal on her hand looks pretty good as well.

Her red sweater looks fine though I would've preferred a bit of texture here I suppose.

Her long dark hair looks just fine to me too, very satisfied. The ribbons look completely fine. There's a minor scuff at the very tip of one of the waves, but I'd argue it's really only noticeable if you were looking at it up close. Otherwise, some seams visible, but looks fine. A bit more extra details would've been nice but no real change here needed.

And finally, the face reveal!

Her nose is nice and pointy, heh.

And if you were really interested, yes, these models usually have the pantsu painted on.

Pretty good figure in my opinion for the price, and especially if you like Rin.
