A 'new' phone?
Uh... So I may have impulsive bought another phone...
Low key, I've been eyeing this phone for a while. I don't know why I just bought it now but to be honest I don't have that much regret buying it. To be fair, I knew what I was getting to but actually having it in your hands... it's a different feeling.
That is an SM-G1650... or otherwise known as a Samsung Galaxy Folder2 and yep, it is not available in the US unfortunately so I had to get it through someone in South Korea.
Uh.
I probably would have kept using it as my main phone except...
- it only supports 3G (which may get phased out soon...)
- is in English, though the keypad is in Korean
- uses microUSB instead of USB-C
- still no headphone jack :(
- I've gotten very rusty with using t9 / keypad input
- app support was... weird*
For the last bullet, it has more to do with launcher support. I didn't realize how much I took normal touch screen behavior for granted, but after trying a few launchers, I ran into the problem that most of them expected that you use a touch screen to swipe around. With this, only a few phones ended up supporting keypad input so, I ended up having to hold the phone awkwardly where I was forced to use the touch screen in most cases.
On the plus side though!
- it's a flip phone!
- has native phone charm support
Sometimes, it's nice to be able to disconnect from the internet even if my life revolves around it. To be fair, this phone still classifies as a smart phone in my eyes so it's not a total disconnect but still, it's a nice homage to the older days of phones. And I can't lie, it's pretty satisfying being able to flip a phone open.
I really need to clean up my desk.
